Pedestrian killed on U.S. 301
|Date:||September 1, 2011|
On Sept. 1, at about 9:15 p.m., a pedestrian who was later identified as Harry David Stradley, 41, of Middletown, was attempting to cross U.S. 301, just north of Diamond State Blvd. (in proximity of the Waffle House Restaurant). As Stradley attempted to cross, (in an area other than marked by a crosswalk or intersection) he stepped off the center median into the path of a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Middletown man, who was traveling northbound on U.S. 301. The pedestrian was struck and later pronounced dead at the scene. Notifications were made to the pedestrian’s next of kin.
Also injured in this crash was a 21-year-old Middletown, man who was the front seat passenger of the vehicle involved in the accident. He was transported to Christiana Hospital for minor facial injuries, and was later released. The roadway was closed for four hours with the assistance of the Delaware Department of Transportation.
The preliminary finding for the crash is pedestrian error, and the investigation, which was handled by the Middletown Police Department Accident Reconstructionist, is ongoing.
