Pedestrian struck on North Broad Street, minor injuries

On Jan. 1, 2012, at 12:45 a.m., the Middletown Police were dispatched to North Broad Street, just north of Lockwood Street, in reference to an accident where a pedestrian was struck.
Investigation revealed that a 63-year-old New Castle man was driving northbound on North Broad Street in the area of Lockwood Street when he observed an individual, later identified as Matthew Clavijo, 21, of Middletown, run in front of his vehicle. The driver attempted to avoid Clavijo, but struck him, knocking him to the ground.
Clavijo was transported to Christiana medical center for minor scrapes and cuts. He was later released.
Clavijo was charged with being intoxicated on a roadway. The striking vehicle sustained minor damage but the driver and passenger were not injured.
