Bank robber apprehended

Robert Kelly   On Wednesday, Jan. 11, the Middletown Police and the Delaware State Police conducted a joint investigation, which resulted in the apprehension of Robert G. Kelly 2nd, of Townsend. Robert Kelly was wanted by the Middletown Police Department for a robbery which occurred on Jan. 8 at the Citizens Bank inside the Acme, 460 E. Main St., Middletown, and a second robbery on Jan. 10 at the Wells Fargo, 2450 Glasgow Ave., Newark.

   On Jan. 11, officers located Robert Kelly’s Chevrolet van abandoned in the area of Bunker Hill and Old Telegraph roads in Middletown.

   Further investigation by detectives revealed that Robert Kelly was in a residence in the 200 Block of Casper Way, in The Legends, Middletown. Detectives from both agencies conducted surveillance and located Robert Kelly, where he was taken into custody without incident.

    Robert Kelly was charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree. Bail conditions are pending.
