Car crashes into local apartment complex
|Date:||January 27, 2012|
On Jan. 27, at about 9:29 a.m., officers from the Middletown Police Department responded to a Personal Injury Accident to the rear of an apartment on the 300 Block of East Hampstead Road, Hampstead Court Apartments, Middletown.
Investigation revealed that a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by a 43-year-old Middletown man exited the Middletown Crossing Shopping Center onto Route 299. Instead of turning onto Route 299, the driver, who suffered a medical emergency, crossed the roadway and continued over the grass, ultimately driving into the side of an apartment on the 300 block of Hampstead Road.
The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was briefly trapped in the vehicle. He was rescued by Middletown Volunteer Hose Fire Company. He was transported to Christiana Medical Center, where he was treated and is pending release.
The tenants of the apartment were at home when the vehicle entered into the brick walled rear bedroom. Fortunately, they were not in that room and no one was injured.
Middletown Code Enforcement responded to the complex and determined the apartment to be dangerous and unsafe. Complex owners are working with the Town to secure the property. The tenants have been relocated pending the renovation of their apartment.
The driver was not charged in the accident
