Juvenile graffiti artists charged
|Date:||February 9, 2012|
The Middletown Police Department has concluded a two-month graffiti investigation. During late November, December of 2011 and early January 2012, the Middletown Police Department received numerous complaints for graffiti throughout the Town.
Officers documented and observed consistent trends of graffiti.
During the month of January, detectives identified several juvenile suspects, who resided within Middletown. After conducting numerous interviews and multiple search warrants at the suspects’ homes, detectives were able to obtain enough evidence to arrest five (5) Middletown juveniles who range in age of 12 to 15.
The total damage (from the paint, markers and sticker graffiti) to the various properties in Town was estimated to be between $8,000 and $10,000.
Each juvenile was charged with several counts of graffiti to real property under $1,500, conspiracy third degree and criminal mischief under $1,500. One juvenile was also charged with possession of graffiti implements.
All five juveniles were arraigned through Family Court and ordered to have no contact with each other, no contact with the victims' properties, had curfews imposed upon them, and ordered not to possess any graffiti implements.
All of the juveniles were released to the custody of their parents pending trial in Family Court.
