Vehicle rolls over on 299 in accident
|Date:||March 7, 2012|
On Feb. 29, at about 8:30 a.m., Middletown Police and Volunteer Hose Company personnel responded to E. Main St. (Del. 299), west of Dickerson Blvd., for a report of a personal injury crash with one of the vehicles rolling over.
On arrival, officers and rescuers found that a vehicle, traveling westbound on Del. 299, had crossed the center line after the driver, Salvatore Puglisi Jr., had fallen asleep after a 12-hour work night. Puglisi Jr.'s vehicle struck a vehicle traveling eastbound on Del. 299, being driven by Kim Pham. The impact caused the Pham's vehicle (a Toyota 4-runner) to flip onto its right side, temporarily trapping the occupants (Pham and her 9-year-old son) who were quickly extracted by rescuers from Middletown Volunteer Hose Co. #27.
Ms. Pham was transported to Christiana Hospital for an injury to her knee, along with her son for precautionary measures. Puglisi was also transported to Christiana Hospital for precaution, but was soon after released.
Puglisi was charged with failing to keep right of the center line.
All parties were residents of Middletown.
The roadway was shut down for about one hour for the investigation.
