Clayton man charged with attempted Robbery of Main Street Valero

On Sunday, Sept. 23, at about 7:25 p.m., the Middletown Police were dispatched to 38 E. Main Street (Valero Shore Stop) in reference to an attempted robbery that just occurred.
The suspect entered the store and implied he had a handgun. He demanded currency from the clerk, who refused. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area with negative results.
Within hours, the patrol officers were able to develop David Donnell, 42, of Clayton, as the suspect in the attempted robbery.
On Monday, Sept. 24, at about 8 a.m., Donnell was taken into custody without incident in Dover.
He was charged with one count of attempted robbery second degree and was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility on lack of $15,000 secured bail.
