Tractor-trailer accident near Walmart

On Nov. 24, at about 10:05 p.m., Pauline Stoneback, 81, of Orefield, Pa., who was driving a 2006 Toyota Prius, attempted to exit the northern-most Walmart entrance and travel northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 301. The Prius struck a Peterbilt tractor-trailer (empty food carrier) head-on for initial point of impact.
The final resting place of both vehicles was about 100 feet south of the point of impact. The impact caused the Prius to spin counter-clockwise, finally coming to rest facing north. The final resting place of the Peterbilt was south. The Prius sustained heavy front end damage, causing the operator to become trapped.
Stoneback was removed from the vehicle by Middletown Volunteer Hose and was flown to Christiana Hospital for medical treatment. Stoneback sustained compound fractures to her leg and hip was listed as stable. She was charged with inattentive driving and expired tags.The Peterbilt sustained minor front end damage. The driver and passenger of the Peterbilt, from Mobile, Ala., were not charged, nor were they injured.
