On Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at about 2 p.m., Middletown Police officers were dispatched to U.S. 301 and Middle Neck Road for a personal injury accident. The investigation revealed that a 2005 Toyota Matrix was traveling northbound on 301 when the driver, a 19-year-old female from Croton on the Hudson, NY, attempted to turn left into a small business. As she started to turn, a 2012 Mazda CX9, driven by a 62-year-old male from Warwick, Md., who was also traveling northbound on 301, failed to see the Toyota and struck the rear, causing major damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to the Christiana Hospital ER in Middletown for injuries she sustained; she was treated and later released.
The driver of the Mazda was transported to the Christiana Hospital ER in Newark for injuries that he sustained. He was held overnight for observation.
He was charged with inattentive driving.
