Juvenile charged with assaulting Walmart associate

On Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at about 3:45 p.m., Middletown Police responded to the Walmart, 705 Middletown Warwick Road, Middletown, for a report of a shoplifting, where a store associate was assaulted. 

The investigation revealed that a 16-year-old male juvenile from Townsend was observed concealing merchandise.  When he attempted to leave the store, he was contacted by a 23-year-old male Walmart Associate.

Upon being confronted, the 16-year-old punched the Associate in the left side of his face, causing the Walmart Associate to fall to the ground.  The juvenile then fled the store on foot.  The Associate was transported to the Christiana Hospital Middletown Emergency Room and was diagnosed with numerous facial injuries. 

The juvenile’s stepfather, who was also in the store, was able to have his stepson return to the store.

The 16-year-old juvenile was arrested for one count of robbery second degree and one count of assault second degree. He was processed, arraigned and later released after posting $1,500 secured bond.
