Road rage incident leads to gun, drugs arrest

On Sept. 28, 2016, at about 6:09 p.m., Middletown Police were called to the area of Middletown Warwick Road and Merrimac Avenue in reference to a road rage incident. The victim reported that a black male driver, later identified as Cornelius B. Jones Jr., 21, of Newark, pointed a black handgun at him while the two vehicles passed. The vehicle that the defendant operated was located in Middletown and a search warrant was conducted on the vehicle. During the execution of the search warrant, officers located a loaded black semi-automatic handgun in the driver side door panel and a rifle in the trunk. Also, officers located 52 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, a digital scale and packaging material. Jones was taken into custody a short period later and found to be in possession of $1,046 United States Currency, suspected drug proceeds. He was arraigned via JP Court #11 and received $86,010 secured bail. He was later transported to JTVCC in lieu of the required bail.
