'Wreaths Across America' at Silver Lake Elementary

Date: December 6, 2018

The Wreaths Across America escort of handmade, balsam wreaths heading to Arlington National Cemetery is scheduled to stop in Bear and Middletown on Dec. 13, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The annual convoy of wreaths to Arlington from Maine will kick off Dec. 8.

The escort — including 12 tractor-trailers carrying a portion of the 253,000 sponsored wreaths, wrapped vehicles, WAA employees, volunteers and partner organizations — will first stop at Caravel Academy, 2801 Del Laws Road, Bear. A mobile Vets Center unit, a free program supporting veterans as they readjust to life after deployment, will be on-site for the event, as well as Wreaths Across America’s Mobile Education Unit.

The convoy will then travel to Silver Lake Elementary School, 200 E. Cochran St., Middletown arriving at 1:15p.m. Public ceremonies will take place at both locations. The convoy is destined for Arlington National Cemetery on the morning of Dec. 15 — National Wreaths Across America Day. The grand marshal, National President of American Gold Star Mothers Inc. Becky Christmas, will lead the caravan as it travels down the East Coast.

National Wreaths Across America Day and escort ceremonies are free.

Wreath sponsorships for participating cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery, are needed and will be accepted through Dec. 3. Sponsor a wreath for $15 by visiting wreathsacrossamerica.org.
