The Town of Middletown's Water Department will begin the fall water system flushing on Monday, Oct. 1. This process could take up to three weeks to complete.
During this service, some residents may experience some cloudiness or discoloration of their water for a short period of time.
If cloudiness or discoloration occurs, residents should run their water for a period of 10 to 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
Also, during the flushing process, some residents may experience a decrease in water pressure. Water pressure will return to normal once the flushing process is complete.
The goal of this program is to ensure water quality is maintained at its optimal level and to properly maintain the town’s water distribution lines. Flushing is a process by which water is moved through a water pipe at a high velocity so that a scouring action is created. Water is then discharged through a hydrant which removes any material build-up from the pipe. The material removed from this process is harmless and requires no special treatment. Use of this flushing technique is critical to the maintenance of water quality and your water system.
