October 23, 2012

Middletown Police responded to the area of Bunker Hill Road and Merrimack Avenue, in reference to a black Chevrolet being operated in a reckless manner.  A concerned citizen had contacted 911, and provided responding officers with the location of the vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and observed the operator commit several moving violations.  Lea A. Porter , 42, of Wilmington, was detained at the scene and several field sobriety tests were conducted.  She was subsequently transported to Middletown Police headquarters for further evaluation.

Officers also conducted a search of the immediate area for her passenger, Bruce Porter, 40, also of Wilmington, who fled from the vehicle prior to the officer’s arrival.  Bruce Porter was later found sleeping in an un-locked vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

Mr. Porter was found to have an active warrant on file and was taken into custody without incident.  He was later transported to the Howard Young Correctional Facility.

While at MPD, Ms. Porter became combative. She refused to submit to additional testing, and attempted to bite one of the arresting officers.

Ms. Porter was subsequently charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, attempted assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, improper u-turn, failure to signal a turn and was committed to the Baylor Correctional Facility in default of $2,002 Secured Bond.
